Cultivating Hands provides minor household repairs to seniors who are at least 65 years of age. The service is available to homeowners. Priority is given to those elderly who are frail, low income, minority, and handicapped to help them live independently in their homes. Residents are responsible for paying for parts and supplies and are charged for services on a sliding scale.
LaShawn Lukes and Jammie Freeman owner of Cultivating Hands LLC and founder of Cultivating Lives 501c3 merged her two companies for a initiative to help formerly incarcerated individuals successfully integrate back into society. Lukes has worked with numerous men and women that participate in Cultivating Lives services and workshops and realized the direct need for sustainability which is housing and food and those goals can be met through employment. Lukes and her construction team created Construction workshops and apprenticeship programs to create career opportunities .
